Committees

Planning and Zoning Committee (PZC)

Identify appropriate issues in regards to land-use planning, zoning, and regulations. Draft resolutions for ANC 1A’s consideration. Coordinate public meetings as necessary. If a public meeting is held, a participant sign-in sheet and meeting notes shall be provided to ANC 1A within 30 days of the meeting date. Research and report findings, recommendations, and deadlines to ANC 1ATrack and notify ANC 1A of all relevant hearing dates.

Education and Recreation Committee (ERC)

Indentify appropriate issues in regards to education and recreation.Explore community partnerships with public schools to improve facilities and student safety.Encourage ANC 1A residents to volunteer their time in ANC 1A parks, schools, and youth programs. Assess use and demand for improvements and/or new facilities in the Department of Parks and Recreation parks and playgrounds. Draft resolutions for ANC 1A’s consideration.

Alcoholic Beverage Review Administration Committee (ABRA)

Chair: Sheldon Scott

Track ANC 1A requests for information/reports and follow-up with ABRA as necessary. Research and report findings and provide recommendations to ANC 1A.Draft (recommended) resolutions for ANC 1A’s consideration. Coordinate community participation at ABC hearings by explicit request of the commission.Maintain an (excel) spreadsheet of all ANC 1A ABC license holders, ANC ABRA notifications, and appropriate deadlines.

Public Safety Committee (PSC)

Chair: Cecilia Jones

Formulate and execute strategies for community involvement to promote greater public safety and awareness of criminal activity.Support the MPD’s community policing initiatives through innovative approaches and encouraging more communication.Track ANC 1A crimes and report information to ANC 1A.Raise public safety issues to ANC 1A and other appropriate entities.Draft resolutions for ANC 1A’s consideration.

Historic Preservation, Development, & Design Review Committee (HPDDR)

Chair: Kent Boese

Promote preservation of the historic, architectural, and residential character of the Columbia Heights, Park View, and Pleasant Plains neighborhoods.Establish and maintain on-going working relations with those public and private entities with similar goals and purposes, such as the Historic Preservation Review Board, Board of Zoning Adjustment, the Zoning Commission, The DC Office of Planning and the DC Preservation League.Identify historic properties and districts of merit and submit them for landmark status when appropriate. Propose related policy positions for the Commission's Consideration. Review designs for all proposed development and recommend changes as appropriate to maintain overall character of ANC 1A neighborhoods.
